Perfume hack: layer your perfume

In the perfume hack series, we share all our favourite tips and tricks that you, as perfume lovers, should know about! Perfume Hack #1 has been used by experienced perfume wearers for years and has become extremely popular in the last few years. We think this trend is worth the hype, it is also the ultimate hack to developing a unique signature scent. We are talking about...

Perfume Layering

What is perfume layering?

Perfume Layering is simply wearing multiple perfumes instead of one. This can be two, but even three or four. You can make it as crazy as you want! You spray the perfumes, layer by layer, over each other. This way of wearing perfume is called 'layering' because it creates a kind of layering of fragrance on your skin. By combining several variations, you develop a new unique scent.

What makes perfume layering so special?

There is nothing more annoying than smelling your personal signature scent on someone else. This is where perfume layering might come in handy. Stop looking for a perfume that has it all... Create one yourself! Because you can mix and match endlessly, the perfume creations you can develop are infinite. We say, keep experimenting until you find your signature scent!

Are there any rules?

In principle, there are no rules in the world of perfume layering. Just keep in mind that you should not mix perfumes that both have heavy elements. The best combination is one heavy perfume with a lighter one. Spray the heavier perfume first and let it dry before spraying the lighter one. This way, the scent molecules can develop on your skin without disappearing into the second perfume. The heavy notes of the first perfume thus create a "base" for the lighter fragrance.

In what order should you spray?

There are three basic rules for the order in which you spray the perfumes when layering. Anything is possible, but this order is the most effective in ensuring you smell your unique creation all day long:

1: Perfumes that you spray on first have a predominant character of the following notes woods, musk, vanilla, patchouli and amber. These notes create a powerful and long-lasting base.

2: If you are going for three or more perfumes, make sure that the middle perfumes preferably have a predominant character of the following scents floral, herbal and fruity. These notes provide an aromatic heart.

3: Finally, preferably spray perfume with a dominant character of the following fragrances citrus, aromatic and green. These notes create a welcoming top.
